| Welcome to Miguel's corner on the web. I am a post-doctoral fellow at the ilab, University of Calgary, under the supervision of Sheelagh Carpendale and Saul Greenberg.
My research is focused on new form factors for interaction such as tabletops, large displays, and mobile devices
and on how to combine them together to create useful multi-display
environments (MDEs, a.k.a. multi-surface environments). As tools, I use and believe in: sketching, hardware prototyping, qualitative observation, laboratory studies, and in a thorough knowledge of previous literature across different pools of knowledge. In particular, I believe that the areas of perception and psychophysics are often overlooked by the HCI literature, and can be instrumental in developing and validating the next generation of user interfaces.
I finished my Ph.D. in 2009 under the supervision of Carl Gutwin, at the Interaction Lab of the Computer Science Department, University of Saskatchewan, which is located in a beautiful town called Saskatoon, in the Canadian prairies. My doctoral topic was multi-display environments. You can download my dissertation but most of my research is in a more citable form as publications in many of the HCI's fields journals and conferences.
